InHerShoes - Art and Music against Cancer
mop asia main

On 25th May at 7.30pm, a group of over 25 local stage and TV actors as well as designers and musicians gathered together for a special art and music event to raise funds for the Singapore Cancer Society.

InHerShoes 2 – the sequel to the same-named event first held last year at The Arts House – began as a mini exhibition and concert to remember the life of late designer, Peikie Ng, and wife of Chemistry's Simon Wong. The inaugural event allowed visitors a glimpse into Peikie's life through her many travels, illustrated by a selection of photographs taken over the past 15 years that took her everywhere from Covent Garden in London and Dartmoor in Devon, to the streets of New York, the hutongs of Beijing, the ryokans of Kyoto, and even to places as far flung as Yunnan’s Lijiang and Tiger Leaping Gorge.

The exhibition revealed the many things that she saw and that inspired her in her life, and visitors were able to walk with Peikie in her shoes.

This year's InHerShoes event featured a spectacular 2-hour concert at Sculpture Square – a cosy corner in Middle Street, flanked by the restaurant, My Secret Garden, and the Sculpture Square Gallery, which was formerly a chapel.

The evening’s line-up included a fire eating and light show, a dance performance as well as live music from Channel 5’s Sharon Wong, singer-songwriter Joanna Dong of Liao Zhai Rocks, and Chemistry’s Marcel Heijnen, who performed a song dedicated to Peikie, Sing Me to Sleep. There were also appearances by actress Gillian Tan and HBO host Linda Black plus exciting fund-raising games hosted by ESPN’s Steve Lai and OKTO’s Waikit.

Another highlight was the poignant exhibition in the Sculpture Square Gallery, showcasing 16 specially created works contributed by designers from Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia and even as far as the UK, all of which celebrated Peikie's life.

A down-to-earth moment in the evening was the brief interview by Linda Black with Gillian Tan and Simon Wong, who shared their stories as caregivers and as people who had lost loved ones through cancer.

Walking forwards

Chemistry was proud to have participated in this event with the creation of the InHerShoes 2 brand and graphics, which included the website design, collaterals and viral web graphics, and an installation art piece.

With the help of public and corporate support, and the generous, creative spirit of local arts communities, it is hoped that InHerShoes will become a key art and music fund-raising event that showcases exciting creative talent while supporting the fight against cancer.
