Healthcare systems face immense pressure from various factors: population growth, aging demographics, regulations, and pandemics.
1. By 2040, 1 out of every 4 employees in the Netherlands will work within the healthcare industry.
2. If we don't change anything, the costs of mental health care will increase fivefold by 2060, up to 30 billion.
3. The average waiting time is already up to an average of 30 weeks, the impact that this has on our patients is only compounded because health problems are not being addressed.
A new EU regulation, aimed at empowering citizens by granting them control over their personal data, will significantly impact healthcare. Patients currently lack control over their data, with professionals holding the reins. This regulation aims to shift that dynamic, ensuring patients have ownership and autonomy over their health information.
CACAO, recognised these challenges and undertook the task of creating a unified digital platform. The aim is to redefine how technology can enable care professionals to deliver quality care and patients to become active participants in managing their health outcomes.
CACAO partnered with our team to bring this vision to life through a research based design process.
Our team crafted a pitch deck to enable CACAO to secure seed funding. This included a branded template and a compelling narrative highlighting the platform's unique value proposition and its potential to transform the healthcare system in the Netherlands.
With our support, CACO secured funding to kickstart the platform's development.
Understanding the users is crucial in designing any solution. Following an Agile approach, our team paralleled both the research and UX and UI design while development immediately got underway. This meant conducting interviews with healthcare professionals (HCPs) and patients alongside iterating the design and delivering weekly handovers to the development team.
Insights from qualitative interviews guided feature prioritisation for the Minimum Viable Product (MVP) and helped refine the user experience (UX) to ensure usability for both patients and HCPs.
Our UX team took advantage of our holistic design view to distil the core components into a flexible design system that delivered a coherent interaction across the entire platform while allowing it to evolve from initial MVP to it's final full suite of features.
These features had to support complex interactions such as collaboration among users with varying access levels.
Within a short time frame, our team had visualised a complex solution founded on solid user-focused research.
Our team enabled both the client and development team to understand user needs, translate those into an effective user interface and provided the front-end design to enable development work to proceed at speed.
With the work done so far, we are moving ever closer to a platform that enables HCPs from across the care continuum to provide quality and timely care for patients who are able to participate and involve trusted family and friends in their care journey.
Stay tuned for future updates on this groundbreaking project!
